Letter from the Chair

March 14th, 2017

As we look forward to 2017/2018, the resource sector in Northern British Columbia is undergoing pressures both positively and negatively.  With a softwood lumber agreement looming over the communities of the north, there are many questions and uncertainties as to what the year will hold based on our southern partners’ political situation.  That being said, there is still investment happening within the marketplace in other sectors, Brucejack Mines, Tumbler Ridge, Alta Gas and Site C to name a few.  With the looming decisions of LNG projects in 2017, the province is well positioned for growth and change in new and exciting ways.

As the newest Chair for Resource Connector North, I and the Board understand the importance of change to remain impactful and relevant to our supporters and ensure we deliver upon our mission, “To Promote Economic Growth in the Natural Resource Sector for the Benefit of all British Columbians.” This will be evident in the activities and changes our supporters will see over 2017, a new website, key sponsorships and networking events to name a few.

Along with creating changes, we will be actively working with industry to gain deeper insights on where the province is headed and what new sectors will we see in years to come, such as Lithium which is currently in new found demands from the worlds technology sector and Northern BC is well positioned with some key deposits.

I thank our past Chair and Board Members for all their hard work and welcome our newest members who will undoubtedly play key roles through our year of change.  I would also like to thank our continued supporters; we are here to partner with you in making Northern BC strong and could not succeed without you and your continued support.

Curt Steeves

Chair, Resource Connector North
